Statement: Canadian Centre for Child Protection selected as End Violence Against Children #SafeOnline grantee

For Immediate Release

Winnipeg, Canada — The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) is proud to have been selected as one of 18 new grantees by End Violence Against Children’s Safe Online initiative, which supports global efforts to tackle online child sexual exploitation and leverage technology solutions to make the internet safer for children.

Under the initiative, C3P will work to advance Project Arachnid’s capabilities to target publicly available child sexual abuse (CSAM) and reduce its global availability. These efforts will have a significant impact on the prevention of online child victimization, while helping to break the cycle of victimization for survivors.

“There is an ever‑growing ecosystem of CSAM that proliferates online; much of it is publicly available but yet goes undetected. The evolution of Project Arachnid means we can carve out those corners of the internet to reduce the availability of CSAM, and prevent further victimization of children,” says Lianna McDonald, Executive Director for C3P.

About Safe Online, End Violence Against Children – the Global Partnership and the Fund: The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children and its associated Fund were launched by the UN Secretary‑General in 2016 with one goal: to catalyse and support action to end all forms of violence against children by 2030.
